Friday, November 21, 2008
As Angelina Jolie's latest film, The Changeling, is released, we look back at her career. Her first Hollywood picture was Hackers in 1995, where she met her first husband Jonny Lee Miller.

In 1999 she won a Golden Globe for her performance in Gia, a TV film about supermodel Gia Carangi, who died of AIDS at the age of 26.

Her first major movie break came when she played a rookie cop opposite Denzel Washington in 1999's The Bone Collector.

The same year, she starred with Winona Ryder in Girl, Interrupted...

... for which she won another Golden Globe and the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

In 2000, she married Billy Bob Thornton, whom she had met the previous year while filming Pushing Tin. They famously took to wearing one another's blood in vials around their necks, and she had his name tattooed on her arm. They divorced in 2003.

The inked tribute to her ex is not her only tattoo - she was photographed being tattooed in Thailand in 2003 and 2004.

She became an international superstar with the release of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider in 2001. Despite negative reviews, the movie earned $275 million worldwide.

While filming Tomb Raider in Cambodia, she felt moved to become involved in humanitarian issues, and was named a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador in 2001, visiting refugee camps in Africa and Asia.
She played Lara Croft again in 2003's Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life...

... and went blonde for Life Or Something Like It.

In 2004, she played Olympias in Alexander, Oliver Stone's film about the life of Alexander the Great.

She and Brad Pitt starred together in Mr And Mrs Smith, and the two stars fell in love while filming. The media dubbed the couple 'Brangelina'.

In 2007, Hollywood's golden couple had a daughter, named Shiloh, in Namibia.

The UN Goodwill Ambassador addressed the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, in 2005.

She starred with Matt Damon in the espionage thriller The Good Shepherd, directed by Robert De Niro, in 2006.

The following year, she starred in A Mighty Heart, playing Mariane Pearl, the wife of Daniel Pearl, the journalist who was kidnapped and killed in Pakistan.

She is estranged from her father, actor Jon Voight. She has three adopted children: Maddox from Cambodia, Zahara from Ethiopia, and Pax from Vietnam.

At the 2008 Cannes Film Festival, she confirmed she was expecting twins. She gave birth to Knox Léon and Vivienne Marcheline in France, on July 12 2008.

Angelina Jolie's latest movie, Changeling, recounts the true-life story of Christine Collins, who lived in Los Angeles during the 1920s and returned home from work one day to discover that her son had gone missing.
